Project Overview

The Sublime Wanderings of the Buddha (Docu-Series): This Documentary Series is the first of its kind. It explores and unravels one of the most fascinating stories in human history, the story of the footsteps of the Buddha. Millions of people come to pay homage to the footsteps of the Buddha in the Gangetic plains, but the Sublime Wanderings of the Buddha still remain a lesser known subject. The Pilgrimage Legacy of Monk-Scholar Master Xuanzang is of utmost importance in the context of the Sacred Geography where the Blessed one walked and taught the Dhamma (Dharma).

26 Centuries after the Historical Buddha and 14 Centuries after Master Xuanzang we are making a humble attempt to unfold the layers of the lesser known story of the Sublime Wanderings of the Buddha (Buddha Cārikā) in the Gangetic Plains by following the Pilgrimage Journey of Master Xuanzang “in the Footsteps of the Buddha”, for the benefit of the entire human society. The Series is based on Buddhist literature, research, and findings conducted over the last 14 years and especially during the ongoing walk based heritage documentation project, Retracing Bodhisattva Xuanzang (RBX) by Deepak Anand, a Pilgrimage Interpreter and an expert on the Buddhist Pilgrimage and Xuanzang.

We have divided the Buddha Cārikā into 17 thematic stories or episodes. The Traditional Chinese version of the Pilot episode was released worldwide on Feb. 27, 2023 under the aegis of the Dharma Drum Mountain Foundation, a renowned Buddhist Organisation of Taiwan. English and Simplified Chinese versions of the episode are to be released later this year.
